: Supervision system of a blender

At Baxter Lessines (Belgium), the blender is the first phase tool in the production of blood bags ; the matter is prepared for extrusion from hot-mixed PVC and oil flakes ; this matter then goes into a cold mixer where several small components are added as well as dyestuff if necessary. The blender had a supervision system under OS2 that had become obsolete, was no longer stable and caused untimely breakdowns in production.

Technord entirely replaced the system with a new generation supervisor under Windows that is integrated in the computing network of the plant.

The new system creates a database to ensure traceability. This base is linked to the management computing system for inflows, stock and orders. The work was carried out complying with GAMP procedures.

The project included two major constraints : no possible interruption of production because the blender feeds all Baxter Europe sites, and very limited documents on the existing system.
